As a leading dentist serving the greater Lynnwood area, we're proud to offer comprehensive pediatric dental care, and we work hard to create a fun, friendly, and comfortable office environment. Our mission is to ensure your child has the best possible experience throughout their pediatric dental treatment – starting from the very first visit!

When to Schedule Your Child's First Dental Appointment

Parents often ask us when they should bring their in for their first dental appointment, and that's a good question: it demonstrates a proactive and engaged approach to pediatric dental health that's vital for a healthy smile. And as it turns out, that first visit should happen early!

In keeping with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, we ask parents to schedule an initial appointment with us as soon as your child's first tooth grows in. Usually, this is around their first birthday. We likely won't perform the treatment at this appointment – instead, it'll be a chance for us to get to know each other, for your child to get acclimated to visiting our Lynnwood dentist's office, and for your pediatric dentist to examine your child's mouth and ensure dental development is progressing normally. In addition, we'll answer any questions you have and provide guidance for maintaining good oral hygiene at home.

How to Prepare Your Child for the Dentist

Many children experience fear and anxiety surrounding dental visits, but there's plenty that you can do to help mitigate this. One way to quell fears is to ensure your child fully understands what to expect at the appointment.

We encourage you to talk with your child about what will happen during the appointment and why it's important, all while trying to use language your child will understand. If they do have fears or anxiety, encourage them to express these feelings and talk about them without judging them. Finally, remember that kids often mirror their parents' attitudes: maintaining a positive attitude about visiting the dentist can help your child have a great experience!
