Pediatric Dentistry Tip:

Here’s a common question most parents encounter:

Q: How do I get my child to brush their teeth!?

We recommend brushing at least twice a day for at least two minutes.

·
Once after breakfast
·
Once before bedtime

In a child’s sense of time in a day, this is an eternity. Here are some ideas to help make brushing time fun and interactive so they cooperate and look forward to the bedtime routine:

·         Find a 2 minute song and sing it during toothbrush time
·
Play 2 minutes of a song on the radio or your child’s favorite song
·
Start with the top teeth. Find a cue at the 60 second mark to switch to brushing the bottom teeth
·
Put a ringing timer or an hourglass timer in the bathroom that they can watch
·
Allow your child to pick out a colorful or interactive light up toothbrush at the grocery store
·
Brush with your child to show them proper techniques and to make it a fun experience to do together
